James Klingensmith

Born: 05/22/1985

Injured: 08/31/2009

Injury: Below Knee Amputation

Military Branch: Army

James’ first deployment overseas was not his only deployment and not the only time he received a Purple Heart Medal. Joining the Army at 18 James quickly found himself stationed in Korea in 2003 and later in Iraq from May 2004 to May 2005. He was immediately deployed in intense action where he and his team fought for three weeks working to secure major bridge crossings in Fallujah. After making it through this extreme fighting, James was hit by an IED as he stood in the gunners turret while his team was doing a routine patrol. Luckily this roadside bomb was incorrectly placed and he escaped with only the remanence of shrapnel in his arm and shoulder.
